Shine On Picture Day

Clothing

• Plan your outfit in advance to ensure that it’s clean and wrinkle-free on picture day.
• Consider your background color and choose clothing that compliments it.
• Wear sleeves to keep the focus on your face, not your arms.
• Opt for solid colors or small, simple patterns that pop against colorful backgrounds.
• Avoid loud patterns, slogans or logos. Be you, not a brand.
• Avoid green. (Our green screen will turn your green shirt white in post-production).
• Choose colors that complement your eye color and skin tone. For example, if you’re a redhead with fair skin, blue will really bounce. If you have brown eyes, bring them out with a brown sweater.

Hair

• Don’t make any drastic changes to your hair’s style or color the week of picture day. (Trims are okay a day or two in advance.)
• Style your hair so it’s out of your face—your yearbook photo is about you, not your ’do.

Complexion

• Get a good night’s sleep the night before picture day to look fresh and free of dark circles. Blemishes are no big deal – our fancy retouching artists can brush them away.
• It may be tempting to tan, but you’re better off au natural. Sunless tanning can look orange under our lights and nobody wants a sunburn.

Expression

• There is no facial expression in the world more stunning than a natural smile.
• Don’t be afraid to practice your smile a few times in front of the mirror, and remember to show your teeth, since closed lips can look awkward.
• If you’re feeling nervous in front of the camera, try thinking of something funny or happy and let it show in your face.
