Some students are extroverts and naturally enjoy sharing their huge personalities with the world. Other students are introverts. Introverts are more reserved and even though they may have an infectious smile and irresistible personality, they only share those traits occasionally. However, when an introvert is put in an environment that makes him comfortable and encourages him to put his personality on display, a new person evolves–one who feels empowered, determined, and unstoppable. I am that introvert, and my experience at Cady Studios this past summer gave me a new perspective on who I can be, no matter who’s watching.
Before my session at Cady Studios, my identity was blurred by moments in my life, such as having poor study habits, scoring average on standardized assessments, receiving limited playing time in a team sport that I love, or succumbing to biases and stereotypes. Throughout high school, I saw myself as an average student-athlete– just a regular guy who loves playing sports and laughing. Of course, as teenagers, we hear our parents say things like, “the sky is the limit”, or “you can do anything you put your mind to.” But the reality is, some teenagers don’t believe in their abilities or talents until they have a paradigm shift on what life has to offer.
Cady ignited that paradigm shift I needed to see my future possibilities.. I left my photo session feeling inspired to share with the world who I was created to be. The photographers at Cady’s did more than capture photos of my face. They encouraged me to let my personality shine through. The candid shots exposed my true personality. The photos reminded me that all my flaws, joys, pains, disappointments, and triumphs were being developed into a beautiful story. A story that can inspire the simplistic and sophisticated alike. A story entitled, “Hello purpose, my name is potential.” I hope my story will inspire other teenagers who may feel they have little to offer society. We are the world changers…we must first change our lenses.
